Chainsaw Man, a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto, debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2018 to 2020. Its second arc started in July 2022 on the same platform. As of April 2024, the series comprises 17 volumes.

The story is set in a world where Devils (悪魔, Akuma) manifest from human fears. Specialized Devil Hunters (デビルハンター, Debiru Hantā) hunt and utilize them. It unfolds in an alternate 1997 where the Soviet Union still exists. Despite this, many historical events, such as the Holocaust, AIDS, and nuclear weapons, have been erased from history because their respective Devils were consumed by the Chainsaw Man Devil. Only four powerful Devils known as the Horsemen (Control, War, Famine, and Death) retain memories of these events. Humans can forge contracts with Devils through sacrifices to wield their power. Devils can also become Fiends by possessing deceased human bodies. If a Devil is killed on Earth, it reappears in Hell; if slain in Hell
